"A calf can never repay its mother's milk"

Groundless is a durational performance art piece. During its 8+ hour span, moments of action punctuate long, gestational periods of repetition. This contrast creates a space for the artist to meditate on the symbolic motherhood of the environment, the grey ethics of their own personal consumption habits, and both their responsibility and powerlessness in the face of a looming climate crisis.

GROUNDLESS was an 8-hour long, participatory, performance art live stream and was also my undergrad thesis piece. Using cow tongues, I meditated on consumption, abstinence, impotence, and the relationship between what is right and what feels good through situations including chewing and spitting out wheatgrass for like an hour and sharing a meal with friends. The piece culminated in taking a group of people to the woods where I was buried in the earth, cow tongue as a headstone. Symbolically eaten and returned to my mother's womb.
